THE STEPS NEWSLETTER – August, 2009
Greetings, fans of THE STEPS! We are so glad to have you signed up for our newsletter, where you will be able to get regular updates and inside scoops on what’s going on with our shoot, release schedule and publicity events.
We have recently finished up the 4th of 5 weeks of principal photography on episodes 4 thru 10, which will round out the first “season” of our show. Everything has been going great. The addition of a Sony HD camera to our equipment cache is making everything look better than ever, and the MakeWork grant money we received earlier this year has been vital in not only keeping us well-stocked with tapes, sound gear, and specialty props, but also allowing us to create a professional, supportive set environment with craft service and meals for our cast and crew.
As the show's creator, it has been a true pleasure to watch these actors take possession of the characters I have written for them, make them their own, and bring their own unique skills and personalities to the work of creating real human beings on film. They have all been revelations.
Our production crew has also been a wonderful gift during this round of shooting. As many of you may know, the first 3 episodes were shot with Tim and me as the only real crew members. And since I was on camera a lot, it was left to Tim to be a one-man film crew much of the time. I wish I had more pictures of poor Tim Cofield, all the camera gear in his hands (I never let him use a tripod), the sound gear on his belt, headphones on, sweat streaming down his face. This time around we’ve got an abundance of energetic, talented people helping us out: Beth Neuhoff as our invaluable, irreplaceable script supervisor; Sahale Jensen as our exceedingly knowledgable 1st Assistant Camera; Jill Clark doing a wonderful job on hair and make-up; Megan Hollenbeck capably shooting the behind-the-scenes video (and occasionally operating the boom mike); Noah Collins and Charles Allison dutifully serving as our Sound Technicians; and last but not least, John O'Keefe-Odom capturing the on-set magic in still pictures as our official Set Photographer.
As a reward for your membership to our newsletter, we’d like to give you some EXCLUSIVE looks at what we’re up to by giving you

to some of the shots John O'Keefe-Odom has managed to grab during the first 3 weeks of the shoot. We hope you enjoy them, and that they get you as fired up as we are for the release of episode 4 sometime in early November. We are hoping to have a big release party in Chattanooga for that, we’ll be sure to let you know the details, so keep your eyes and ears peeled.
Enjoy the pics. They’re our way of saying “thanks” to you, our supporters and fans. And if anyone asks how you managed to get your eyes on them, make sure to tell ‘em to start following THE STEPS at followthesteps.net!
Thanks,
Dylan Kussman
