First thing that you need to do is go to the BT website i.e www.bt.com. The website is designed in such a way that you can easily access it. It has an easy portal for putting up a request for a home move. Things that you would be requiring for this is your account number, existing phone number, Address of the place you are moving into and lastly the moving date. You can take your equipment along with you when you are shifting and you yourself  can install, unless a new line is to be added.

How long will it be?:  Don’t take tension about the time. BT only takes least two weeks’ notice, and recommends letting it know at the earliest preferably about six weeks before you are moving to your new home. Note that your move date should be definite. You’ll be at an advantage if there’s a working line at your new place, then within a few days it will get installed. As getting a new one installed could take two weeks.

Is a new contract needed?:  Well actually yes. If it is a phone line then you need a new 12-month contract. But an unused Line Rental Saver or calling plan features will be enrolled from your old one. Broadband is more easier to get, but if you have a contract that is of less than three months, then you would be requiring a new three-month contract.

Is fibre available?  Depends upon the availability in your new area, though BT has wide availability. If you can not have a fibre optic connection, that will be visible in your new contract.

Duration:To get move to your new home with full ease make sure that you contact Virgin Media at least  six weeks before your move date so that you can avoid any kind of hustle bustle. THis will help you to set up your broadband few minutes as your new home will already have a Virgin Media connection.

Cost: There’s an admin charge, installation itself is free.

Need a new contract?: Yes. And don’t worry no cancellation fee for your old one.

What about fibre?:  The major drawback with Virgin media is that their cables don’t reach everywhere. Hence it totally depends on the place where you’re moving. NOw here rises a question that do you have to downgrade? The answer to this is no not at all. If your new home does not get connect to Virgin Media at all, then you can have your contract cancelled and pay a cancellation fee.

Changing providers?
